The Seminar will focus on the major theoretical and mathematical concepts and will be composed of lecture, problem solving, and Q&A. The emphasis of the Seminar will be to break the syllabus down into a series of comprehensive, discrete, testable concepts and math procedures.

This list of key concepts and math procedures will be articulated and reviewed one by one. Practice problems and solutions will be reviewed. Study aids to assist in memorizing the core concepts and math procedures will be provided as well.

The Seminar will employ several teaching techniques to convey the material, cement student learning, and make the seminar experience more enjoyable.

• Concise lecture overview of the material

• Extensive focus on practice problems and more complex concepts

• Attach brief anecdotes to concepts

• Connect ideas with similar themes

It is expected that students will have studied the CAS Exam 9 material previous to attending the seminar and be at least broadly familiar with the content.

Seminar > Objectives

Mr. Fox’s intent is to present all the material a student needs to know to pass a typical CAS Part 9 exam. If a student knows the key concepts and math procedures presented in the seminar they will be prepared to take and pass the exam.

To ensure students have the tools needed to learn those concepts and math procedures, study materials will be provided at the seminar to reinforce the instruction given.

Flash Cards. A stack of cards will be provided that covers all major syllabus content and facilitates increased proficiency of random access recall of concepts.
Math Procedure List. This list shows all the main testable math procedures (~80) and provides examples of each.

Memorization of the flash cards and proficiency in all the math procedures will identify candidates who are prepared to pass the exam.
