How each exam is constructed!

Each preparatory test was constructed with the following criteria in mind:

Question Types (i.e. T/F, MC, Computational, Essay)
Our Independently Authored Exams include only those question types that candidates will be exposed to.  Modified Past CAS T/F, MC, and Comp Exams, and Past CAS Essay exams, include question types that appeared on previous CAS exams.

Degree of Difficulty
The degree of difficulty associated with the above question types (for Modified Past CAS T/F, MC, and Comp Exams, and Past CAS Essay exams) parallels that of prior CAS questions for T/F and MC question types.

However, our Independently Authored Exams include questions with a higher degree of difficulty, since it requires candidates to input amounts (for computational type questions) and provide typed essay answers (for essay based questions).  These are the complete question types that candidates will be exposed to on actual CAS exams.

Time Allotted
Our online exams are timed and range from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes. These times have been scaled down from typical CAS exams to reflect the fact that a smaller number of articles are examined per test.

Articles Covered
Our preparatory tests cover smaller segments of the syllabus readings. This has been done to test your understanding of a more manageable amount of material. Testing smaller segments of the syllabus readings MAKES SENSE and helps candidates identify where their strengths and weaknesses lie, by syllabus segment.

Number of Questions
The number of questions are a function of the points per question. See Points per Question below.

Points per Question
Typical CAS exams consist of one hundred point tests conducted over a four hour period. The points awarded per question on our online exams parallel those examined by the CAS (e.g. T/F worth 1/2 point, Multiple Choice worth 1 point, and Computational/Essay questions having points varying by the degree of difficulty associated with the question).

Keeping with previous CAS scoring procedures, incorrect T/F answers receive a negative penalty of 1/2 point, while incorrect MC answers receive a negative penalty of 1 point.
