What does it take to pass?

It is not difficult for a serious candidate, after spending 250-300+ hours, to obtain a 4 or a 5 on the exam. The question is how does one obtain the additional 5-15 points to pass?

Passing is a function of numerous factors. Some of the more important ones are as follows:

The quality of the study materials at your disposal. Since this will be the primary source you reference over a period of 3-4 months, make sure that the materials your choose are comprehensive.

How you manage your study time, and not necessarily the time spent studying. Spending the required amount of time to be properly prepared is necessary, but is not sufficient condition for passing the exam.

How well you perform under timed conditions.

The questions (aside from past CAS questions) you have at your disposal.

What you intend to do differently (in a positive direction) to increase your chances of passing the exam.

In short, passing requires candidates to self assess their strengths and weaknesses in the area of exam preparation, to implement their exam preparation strategy, and to "stick with it" until they reach their goals.

Instructors/educational providers should make available appropriate study aids and tools and candidates who use such tools should commit to properly using them to maximize the benefits that can be derived from them.
